It’s amazing how good vegetables are for your body. They’re packed with vitamins, and the denser and leafier they are, the better they are for your body. But unfortunately, so many of us don’t get enough vegetables in our diet. The good news is, there are plenty of ways you can sneak more vegetables in, either through soups, grated into muffins or sauces but today I’m going to share with you my favourite green smoothie recipe that tastes almost like a dessert.
I use either spinach or kale in my green smoothies. I find that spinach makes for a nice smooth texture while kale is more nutrient dense. Green leafy vegetables are high in iron (combine with a vitamin c rich food like citrus to aid absorption), calcium and magnesium. They also contain potassium and folate which are important for health. (1)
I put half an avocado in this to make it more nutrient dense and add to that creamy, milkshake-like texture. Do I need much more of an explanation here? We all know how good avos are for health and general life happiness 😉
Coconut milk/cream is also a must to get that rich taste and silky texture. This is a great dairy alternative and packs in some great healthy fats, keeping you fuller for longer. Add less or more depending on the thickness you desire, I like to add less for a smoothie bowl and more if I need a quick drink on the go.
If you’re like me and are obsessed with chocolate then go ahead and makes this into a chocolate milkshake by adding a tablespoon of cocoa powder. You can also add in some nut butter for extra protein and creamy deliciousness. Add more bananas or honey according to how sweet you like it.
I hope you enjoy it!
